“Award-winning multi-tasking illustrator, art director, director and designer Kate Moross burst on to the creative scene back in 2008 when her love for colour and energetic squiggles caught the eye of anyone and everyone, spawning a host of imitators and propelling her to be one of the most sought-after collaborators in the design world.
Since then Kate has spent her time applying her magic touch to music videos, textiles, identities, murals, fashion and magazine covers for big-time publications. Recently Studio Moross which she set up to focus on branding, art direction and commercial projects created the much-talked-about tour visuals for One Direction.”

Well … I do not know yet how to express myself in relation to this guest … it was by far the best until today. With an invincible genuineness and honesty.
I like sincere people who talk about “naked” reality … just as it is.
Kate Moross was at my university and gave us the opportunity to ask any questions about this “world” and how to achieve our goals.
For those who do not know … Kate Moross is a legend.
It was very good to hear from a person who was in the place where we are today and know that from there it is possible to go far. From the university to conduct her own company.
I wrote down in my notebook all the points of her presentation because they were all relevant!
“What are you interested in?”
“What are you good at?”
“What makes you you?”
“What is your worth?”
“A third a third a third.”
“Saves for your taxes”
“Experience breeds confidence”
“Show your skills”
“Document + Display your work”
“Learn to Earn”
So far these points were all fundamental because we have to build our confidence, cultivate our brains, learn to acquire the maximum knowledge possible.
Experiment, fail, learn from failures.
See where it might be your way, build the first few pieces of that path.
Take risks, send business cards, hope that you will receive an email or some response and then if no one calls back or responds to an email you sent, do not give up, do not despair, fight, continue to fight.
Save for your taxes, because when you finish university, you will be on your own, and in the real world everyone has bills and payments that you can not escape or simply ignore, they are responsibilities, they are a priority.
Have a good CV or a cover letter where you are yourself.
Be professional while being personal, show your personality, be honest, be what you know is best, be yourself.
“Graduate internships should be paid.”
“Check your licenses.”
“Trade your skills.”
“Support each other.”
This is a point that many people or not knowing or not being well informed, always makes that mistake.
That is to accept that someone offers them a place in their agency “for free”, to gain experience. No! It’s wrong! You should not accept to work for someone else only to enrich your CV or to gain experience professionally because it is wrong! All the work that you do, you must be paid, because we all have a life and that is our right, to be paid for your work. If you value yourself and do not be fooled by those people who just want to explore you and take your time without paying anything in return.
Just as you should check your licenses because just as you have rights, there are also rights that vice has to comply with. Learn the facts.
Support each other, do not get carried away to the extreme of competition, be yourself without going over anyone, support and get support in return, be friends with who will be your friend too.
Start now! It is never early or late to start … But the sooner the better, you gain more confidence in yourself and you will be far more prepared for the future.
Get to know Kate Moross better trough some of her interviews:
Here are some of her work, she worked for names as One Direction, Fiat (car branding), Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate, Sony Walkman Advertorial, Nike Dunk 23rd Anniversary Series, TopShop, etc.
She has her own company and a studio. She created this book, called “Make your own luck”, it is a guidebook in order to help you on “what to leave in, what to get out” in your life. I already bought it online, its arriving Thursday… I Can not wait to read it.
Thank you, Kate, for being something that you don’t believe in, but YES YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION. Kate doesn’t believe that she is an inspiration or in inspiration itself, she says that she is a problem solving, which it is true, but for me, it was a pleasure to get the chance to listen to her sharing her experience.
